How does an erection occur?
An erection is known to be caused by sensory and mental stimulation. During sexual arousal, your nerves send chemical messengers to the blood vessels in your penis. The arteries relax and open up to allow more blood flow in, whilst at the same time, the veins close up. Two chambers called the corpora cavernosa, which run the length of the organ fill with blood, creating pressure that eventually leads to an erection. When the inflow of blood stops, the veins open up causing your penis to become soft.

What is Erectile Dysfunction?
Erectile dysfunction (ED) is a common but treatable condition that solely affects men.
From a symptomatic standpoint, erectile dysfunction primarily impairs a man’s ability to produce and maintain an erection – which can lead to further physical and emotional problems.

Physical causes of erectile dysfunction include:
  • Heart disease
  • Obesity
  • Excessive consumption of alcohol
  • High blood pressure
  • Sleep disorders
  • High Cholesterol
These are all often viewed as catalysts for erectile dysfunction however, other causes can also include psychological conditions such as depression, stress, and relationship problems.

Treating Erectile Dysfunction
In many cases, feeling embarrassed about sexual health problems is what prevents men from seeking the medical attention they need. This can cause a delay in diagnosis and treatment of potentially more serious underlying conditions.

Failure to get an erection is not unusual and in most cases does not require treatment, however, if this happens on an occasional basis, it generally means there is an issue and treatment is needed. Men who are suffering from erectile problems on a more regular basis are encouraged to seek expert medical advice, guidance, and treatment from professionals such as Elite Meds.
