What is Hirsutism?
Hirsutism is a condition that causes excessive growth of dark or coarse hair. Generally speaking, sufferers of the condition will tend to notice the emergence of hair growth on the face, chest, and back which are usually places where women would not see hair growth to such an extent.

It is important to note that, as part of the ageing process, women naturally grow more hair on their face and body – particularly after the menopause. Visually, this hair is a lot finer and therefore not the same as hirsutism.

What causes Hirsutism?
Women may develop excessive body or facial hair due to a higher-than-normal level of androgen hormones. Androgens are a group of hormones that play a key role in kick-starting puberty and stimulating hair growth in the pubic and underarm areas.

Everyone produces androgens, but these levels usually remain low in females. If a women's skin suddenly begins to produce these hormones in excess, she can develop hirsutism.

Treating Hirsutism
There are several different treatment methods available for tackling hirsutism. Some women may choose laser hair removal whilst, other may go for electrolysis. In any case, Elite Meds have the knowledge and expertise to help you clear excess hair growth wherever it may arise.
