What is Vaginal Dryness?
A very common condition experienced by most women, vaginal dryness is an intimate condition where the vagina is essentially less lubricated than normal. This widespread but relatively minor intimate issue can be attributed to several causes that include changes in a woman’s hormone levels as well as an adverse reaction to an intimate cleaning product.

What are the causes of Vaginal Dryness?
Normally, natural lubrication produced by the glands at the neck of the womb helps to keep the vagina moist and lubricated. The moisture moves down the vagina, keeping it clean, whilst also removing dead cells. The hormone estrogen helps to maintain that fluid and keeps the lining of the vagina healthy.
When there is a drop in estrogen levels, it reduces the amount of moisture that is available. This can occur at any age due to a number of different causes. A lack of vaginal moisture can impact your sex life and cause irritation in the genital area.

A drop in estrogen levels can occur due to:
  • Menopause
  • Child birth
  • Breastfeeding
  • Radiation or chemotherapy treatment for cancer

What are the symptoms of Vaginal Dryness?
From a symptomatic standpoint, vaginal dryness is known to cause the vagina to feel sore and/or itchy, painful during sex and increase the need to urinate more than usual. While symptoms of vaginal dryness are indeed uncomfortable and unpleasant, they are relatively straightforward to treat.
